On Wednesday, May 13, 2026, the Haitian Ministry of the Environment officially launched the Support Program for Citizen Environmental Initiatives (PAIEC) and Operational Phase 8 of the Global Environment Facility Small Grants Program (GEF/SGP).

Led by the Haitian Ministry of the Environment, with technical and financial support from UNESCO and other partners, PAIEC aims to support innovative entrepreneurial initiatives led by young entrepreneurs and environmental organizations in all ten departments of the country.

The program will fund 30 high-impact environmental projects, three projects per department, with financial support ranging from 250,000 to 1,000,000 gourdes. It seeks to encourage environmental innovation, the creation of green jobs, and citizen mobilization to address the country's environmental challenges.

Operational Phase 8 of the GEF/SME Programme, implemented with the support of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), will support local community organizations engaged in environmental protection, particularly in protected areas and zones of high environmental vulnerability.

Through these two programs, the Ministry of the Environment aims to strengthen local environmental actions, support sustainable local initiatives, and encourage the active participation of young people and grassroots organizations.
