Educators Appreciation Week in Haiti

Vijonet Demero, Minister of National Education, recognizing that educators are the true architects of national consciousness and the guarantors of hope, announces that the week of May 11-17 each year is declared: Educator Appreciation Week. This week aims to honor the courage, acknowledge the sacrifice, and celebrate the dedication of these women and men who, beyond providing instruction, shape the spirit and soul of Haiti.

Throughout this period, the Departmental Directorates of Education (DDEs) are responsible for recognizing the Educators of the Year, presenting them not only to the public but also to their colleagues. In this regard, the DDEs mobilize the educational community to participate in all socio-cultural and recreational activities organized in their honor.

As for May 17, National Educators' Day, each school is invited to organize a special flag-raising ceremony, bringing together students, educators, and parents. During this event, the school administration will address a message of thanks and appreciation to the educators.

Note : As part of the reform of the Haitian education system, the Ministry of National Education has issued a circular stating that "Educator" is the generic term to designate the three categories of educational personnel (supervisory, teaching, and support staff), in accordance with the Decree published on March 24, 2014, establishing the specific status of educational personnel.

"In this period of major challenges, Haitian schools can no longer be content with simply transmitting academic knowledge. They must become more of a place of growth, strengthening social, economic, emotional, and cultural skills, and fostering the appropriation of civic values. The educator is now called upon to be a guide, a facilitator, and an agent of social transformation," states Circular #C-11:962 from the Ministry, dated May 13, 2026.
