Reopening of the Cap-Haitien post office

On Friday, May 15, 2026, after several years of inactivity, the Cap-Haitien Post Office officially reopened its doors.

This reopening is part of a broader process of modernizing and strengthening public services in Haiti. It reflects the government's commitment to gradually restoring its presence throughout the country and bringing essential services closer to citizens.

During the ceremony, James Monazard, the Minister of Commerce and Industry, emphasized that this initiative went beyond simply reopening an administrative building. According to him, it is a strong signal in favor of institutional revitalization, improved access to public services, and the gradual restoration of trust between the government and the people.

Recalling the historical role of the postal service in the functioning of modern states, the Minister highlighted its evolution toward more diversified services, including logistics, e-commerce, and local services. This transformation, he indicated, "opens up significant opportunities for economic and territorial development."

The reopening of the Cap-Haitien Post Office is also of particular importance for the Grand North region, an area of great historical, cultural, and economic significance. It is seen as a concrete step toward strengthening the institutional presence of the State and improving services offered to citizens, businesses, and the diaspora.

Furthermore, the Government reaffirmed its commitment to continuing the modernization of the Haitian Postal Service, with the aim of making it more efficient, more accessible, and better adapted to contemporary realities.

Through this initiative, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, via the Haitian Postal Service (OPH), intends to confirm that national reconstruction also depends on the progressive rehabilitation of public institutions and the consolidation of their role in serving the population.
