Update on the deployment of the Gang Supression Force (GSF) 20/05/2026 09:30:57
The Gang Supression Force (GSF) in Haiti is expected to become operational next June, marking a new phase of international aid to the country. It is estimated that of the 5,550 personnel the mission is expected to have, approximately 2,000 could be deployed by July. The new force currently has an initial contingent of 750 Chadian soldiers in Haiti out of the 1,500 promised. According to sources close to the matter, all 5,500 personnel from various countries could be operational by the end of the year. This new initiative relies on two funding mechanisms: a trust fund of approximately $232 million, financed by voluntary contributions from various countries (of which $180 million is already available), and a budget of $400 million coming directly from United Nations funds. The first funding will be used to pay the salaries of the troops and deployed personnel. The second funding is earmarked for projects of the United Nations Support Office in Haiti (BANUH), specifically the relocation, accommodation, and mobilization of mission equipment. This funding is contingent upon budget approval, which observers consider a foregone conclusion. SL/ iciHaiti
