The Ministry of National Education learned with the deepest sadness of the passing of the brilliant mathematics professor, Bernard Brousseau, on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, in a hospital in the Port-au-Prince metropolitan area.

Three days earlier, he had been shot multiple times during recent clashes between armed gangs in the Cul-de-Sac plain. He was rushed to the hospital and underwent extremely complex surgery. Since then, he had been in a difficult recovery phase. On Wednesday, he succumbed to his injuries.

The Ministry extends its heartfelt condolences to his wife, children, friends, and students on the passing of this distinguished educator who dedicated nearly forty years to Haitian education. The Ministry assures the bereaved family of its unwavering support.
