Petit-Goâve : Emergency and prevention measures in the face of the rainy season

In line with the government directives issued by Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé, Minister of Public Works Joseph Almathe Pierre Louis extended his assessment mission, traveling from Grande Anse to the Palmes region.

This stop in Petit-Goâve, and more specifically at the La Digue River site, is of paramount strategic importance. With the hurricane season fast approaching (June 1st), the Ministry is officially shifting to emergency and prevention mode. Teams have thus conducted a thorough assessment of several other waterways, including the Caïman River, the Left River, and the Rouyonne River, in order to plan sustainable structural interventions on their various branches.

Given these challenges, the Minister is calling for increased responsiveness from local technicians. The priority is to urgently accelerate the projects for embankment, dredging, and bank protection to ensure the safety of residents in the Palmes region, while maintaining free movement on this vital road before the first major storms.

Given the particularly concerning situation of the La Digue River, the Ministry is implementing an ongoing strategy to sustainably address these hydrographic challenges. This approach will begin with the immediate correction of the most threatened riverbeds in the very short term, before expanding, in the medium term, to the fundamental treatment and development of the watersheds.

Through these projects, the Ministry of Public Works reaffirms the government's unwavering commitment, which is concretely demonstrated through on-the-ground actions, rigorous and constant monitoring, and responsible, transparent, and rigorous management of State assets.
