During an official visit to the Artibonite department, Sharina Lochard, Secretary of State for Territorial Communities, installed the new Gonaïves Municipal Commission on May 25. The ceremony took place at the Gonaïves City Hall, in the presence of members of civil society, the press, and several citizens close to the new officials.

The new Municipal Commission is composed of Mayor Gina Jeanty as President, and Deputy Mayors Géralda Faustin and Marc Emmanuel Berthaud as members. This council is responsible for managing the municipality until the next elections.

In her address, Sharina Lochard emphasized the importance of the mission the new municipal team must accomplish. She encouraged the Commission members to work together, with patience and wisdom, to better meet the needs of the population.

She also asked the new mayoral officials to collaborate closely with the National Police, as well as with all other administrative authorities and state representatives, in order to strengthen local governance.

For her part, Gina Jeanty, the Commission President, emphasized the need for all active forces in Gonaïves to unite to bring about political and social changes in the best interests of the municipality. She promised greater commitment, discipline, and order in the organization of future work, in order to meet the major challenges of municipal management and deliver the results expected by all.
