2026 World Cup : The Minister of Tourism mobilizes the Haitian diaspora

Stéphanie Smith, the Minister of Tourism, along with representatives from the Consulate General of Haiti in New York and the Haitian Football Federation (FHF), participated in a reception held on Sunday, May 31, at Leonard’s Palazzo in Great Neck, New York, to celebrate and prepare for the historic participation of the Haitian men’s national team in the 23rd FIFA World Cup, which will be held this summer in the USA, Canada, and Mexico.

This event brought together representatives of the diplomatic corps, elected officials, representatives of the Haitian Football Federation, community leaders, members of the diaspora, and several prominent figures involved in promoting Haiti internationally. Beyond paying tribute to the Grenadiers (the Haitian national team), this gathering highlighted the exceptional opportunities this participation offers for enhancing the country’s image on the international stage.

For Minister Smith, the 2026 World Cup offers Haiti an unprecedented international showcase. It is an opportunity to present to the world a country rich in history, culture, heritage, and the hospitality of its people. "We must seize this opportunity to tell another story of Haiti: that of its resilience, creativity, and potential," the Minister stated.

She also emphasized the Government's commitment to leveraging Haiti's participation in the 2026 World Cup as a tool for tourism diplomacy and national promotion. This mobilization aims to enhance the country's international visibility, encourage travel by the diaspora, and highlight the many assets that make Haiti an authentic destination offering unique experiences.
