The CEP rejects any idea of confrontation and requests dialogue with the PM 05/06/2026 09:52:34
Jacques Desrosiers, President of the Provisional Electoral Council (CEP), dismisses any idea of a confrontation between the Council and the Prime Minister's Office regarding the draft electoral decree unilaterally amended by the executive branch. He cites differences in interpretation (https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-47676-haiti-flash-open-conflict-between-the-cep-and-the-executive-branch.html) while the Council members analyze the text submitted by the Prime Minister's Office and prepare observations and suggestions. To this end, on June 4th, 2026, Jacques Desrosiers sent a letter (Ref.: CEP/BP/JD/0334-2526) to the Prime Minister, justifying the dismissal of Uder Antoine, Executive Director of the CEP, and requesting a meeting between the two parties to discuss the points of disagreement. Correspondence from Jacques Desrosiers to the Prime Minister "[...] Mr. Prime Minister, On Wednesday, June 3rd, 2026, at approximately 8:00 p.m., I received a call from the Secretary General of the Prime Minister’s Office informing me of your decision to install a Director General at the Provisional Electoral Council (CEP) on Friday, June 5, 2026. In light of the principle of institutional independence, the CEP has always opposed the appointment and installation of a Director General to head the electoral body, both before the former Presidential Transitional Council and before you, Mr. Prime Minister. This profound disagreement is on the verge of plunging the country even further into crisis. It is therefore the responsibility of the CEP and the Government to work together to prevent the country from sinking even further. The Provisional Electoral Council believes that this is still possible. Therefore, on behalf of the Provisional Electoral Council, I request a meeting between the CEP and you to discuss our points of disagreement. Through this initiative, I wish to avoid any confrontation between the CEP and the Government, which would be entirely detrimental to the Nation. Hoping that this request will receive a prompt and positive response, please accept, Mr. Prime Minister, the expression of my patriotic sentiments." Jacques Desrosiers, President IH/ S/ iciHaiti
