UNESCO : Strengthening preparedness and response capacities to hydro-meteorological risks 25/06/2026 10:15:30
For the 2026 hurricane season, UNESCO field teams are continuing their outreach work with communities to strengthen local preparedness and response capacities for hydro-meteorological risks in Haiti. In Grand'Anse, awareness-raising activities are continuing in communities as well as in several schools, including during the end-of-year exam period. In the Artibonite department, another awareness session was organized in the Raboto community. Beyond sharing information, these activities contribute to fostering a culture of prevention based on collective responsibility and the ability of communities to act for their own safety. By acquiring essential knowledge and skills, the community becomes an active participant in disaster risk reduction and contributes to the protection of human lives, property, and the environment. Through these initiatives carried out in several regions of the country, UNESCO reaffirms its commitment to supporting communities in strengthening their resilience to climate hazards by promoting the dissemination of knowledge and the adoption of practices that help better prepare the population.
