Security : Haiti's DGPC strengthens its national capacities

As part of capacity building for stakeholders in the National Disaster Risk Management System (SNGRD), the Directorate General of Civil Protection (DGPC) organized a three-day workshop in Pétion-ville focused on introducing simulation exercises (SIMEX) to strengthen the capacity of its simulation exercise unit.

In his opening remarks, Emmanuel Pierre, Director General of Civil Protection, emphasized the importance of simulation exercises as an essential tool for emergency management. He noted that these exercises allow institutions and partners to test their plans, policies, and procedures, identify operational challenges, and strengthen their disaster response capacity.

Participants fully benefited from the various training sessions, sharing their experiences and putting the acquired knowledge into practice to replicate it within their respective organizations and areas of operation.

This workshop was made possible through the technical and financial support of the United States Forest Service (USFS) and the Regional Disaster Assistance Program (RDAP), demonstrating their commitment to developing national capacities in disaster risk management.

During the three-day training, participants were introduced to the fundamental principles of simulation exercises, their planning, implementation, and evaluation mechanisms, enabling them to draw lessons learned to improve response systems. Following the final evaluation, participants will receive certification. They are now better prepared to support the SIMEX Unit in the national simulation exercise to be held in the South.
