Jacmel : Construction of the photovoltaic solar power plant and ban

Following the signing of the contract for the construction of the Jacmel photovoltaic solar power plant on the Mont Fleury site on January 15, 2026, https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-46650-haiti-technology-construction-of-a-major-solar-power-plant-in-jacmel.html by the Dominican international firm ESD Engineering Service S.R.L, Ms. Loudie César, the Mayor of Jacmel, reminds the general population and residents, especially the inhabitants of Mont Fleury, that it is formally forbidden for any natural or legal persons to undertake construction work, deposit materials, install equipment or carry out any other activity in the project areas. This decision is being made to preserve the integrity of the site, ensure compliance with current administrative and technical procedures, and guarantee the successful completion of the photovoltaic solar power plant project, effective immediately and until further notice, in the interest of the municipality and indeed the entire district.

The Jacmel City Hall urges all stakeholders to strictly adhere to the provisions of this notice. Any violation may result in administrative measures and legal action as provided by applicable laws and regulations.

This solar power plant will provide 4 MWp of energy and 6 MWh of battery storage. Funded by the World Bank to the tune of $7 million, this 13-month project aims to stabilize the local electricity grid and address the city's chronic power supply deficit. This power plant will cover a significant portion of Jacmel's energy needs, estimated at a total of 10 MW. The construction of this power plant will take 13 months, from February 2026 to March 2027. https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-47392-haiti-access-work-underway-at-the-mont-fleury-solar-power-plant-site.html
