On the afternoon of July 14, 2026, at approximately 5:25 a.m., a fire broke out in part of the Ministry of Youth, Sports, and Civic Action (MJSAC) building. Security guards quickly alerted responsibles, who immediately contacted the fire department.

While awaiting their arrival, local residents and several employees, who had already left for work, returned to the scene after hearing the news and mobilized to try to contain the flames.

Once on site, the Delmas firefighters, later reinforced by those from Port-au-Prince, did everything in their power to finally bring the fire under control.

According to initial findings at the scene, the roofs of the minister's office, the general secretariat, the chief of staff's office, and the reception hall were destroyed. The Ministry of Youth, Sports and Civic Action (MJSAC) clarified that no documents, files, materials, or equipment belonging to the institution were destroyed by the fire.

Minister Pythagore Dumas took the opportunity to warmly thank the security guards for their quick response, the firefighters for their rapid intervention, the employees who remained on site late into the evening to ensure the building was safe, and the local residents who readily lent a hand with whatever resources they had available.

Pending a thorough investigation into the cause of the fire, Minister Dumas reassured the entire population, and especially the institution's employees, that this incident will not result in the ministry's temporary closure. Accordingly, all employees are expected to report to work at 8:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 15, to ensure the continuity of public services.
