Disasters : Distribution of equipment for Rapid Response Teams 20/07/2026 09:33:55
The General Directorate of Civil Protection (DGPC), with the support of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and thanks to funding from the Government of Japan, officially distributed equipment to the South Departmental Emergency Operations Center (COUD) for the Rapid Intervention Teams (EIR). The handover took place in the presence of the UNDP Deputy Resident Representative, the South Departmental Director of Civil Protection, the mayors of Maniche, Camp-Perrin, and Les Côteaux, brigade commanders, municipal technical coordinators, EIR representatives, and departmental and municipal authorities. When a disaster strikes, the first few hours are often crucial. Communication networks can be disrupted, roads rendered impassable, and relief efforts delayed. In this context, trained, equipped, and operational local teams are an essential link in the response chain. This equipment handover supports the "Reconstruction of Healthcare Facilities in the Great South" project and illustrates the strength of the partnership between the DGPC, UNDP and the Government of Japan in sustainably strengthening community resilience to disaster risks. Through the development of Rapid Response Teams, the DGPC continues its efforts to bring emergency response mechanisms closer to communities and sustainably strengthen the resilience of the areas most exposed to risks. The beneficiaries have committed to ensuring their rigorous management. IH/ S/ iciHaiti
