Northwest, Haiti, a 46 km road construction project

Northwest, Haiti, a 46 km road construction project

The Ministry of Public Works, under the direction of Minister Joseph Almathe Pierre Louis, has launched the road resurfacing project on the section of road linking Port-de-Paix to Jean-Rabel. This 46-kilometer project is included in the Public Investment Budget and is being carried out directly by the Northwest Departmental Directorate (DDNO).

Teams are working on several critical sections to restore traffic flow and improve access for road users. The work includes resurfacing the road with the addition of materials, addressing the areas of Magranbois (1, 2, and 3), Fond Neptune, Morne Tales, Fond Diri, and Morne Bourik, installing drainage systems, and clearing drainage structures that have been neglected for over 30 years, according to local residents.

The DDNO is also rehabilitating the section of road linking Poste Métier to Baie des Moustiques beach, an area recognized for its tourism potential.

On the ground, the first tangible results of this widespread mobilization are already being felt. The earthworks and road resurfacing at Morne Tales are complete, as is the road resurfacing with added materials between Morne Palmiste and Magranbois over nearly 7 kilometers, the treatment of the Magranbois area, and the resurfacing of the Poste Métier - Baie des Moustiques section over approximately 3.5 kilometers.

This project is part of the Ministry's ongoing commitment to opening up the Northwest region and sustainably improving the mobility of people and goods, particularly in the most difficult-to-access areas.
