On Wednesday, August 5, at a press conference, Vijonet Déméro, the Minister of National Education, reaffirmed the date of Monday, September 7, 2026, for the official start of the school year throughout the country. This date was chosen in agreement with the Head of Government, Fils-Aimé, and various national and international partners working in the field of education in Haiti.

The Minister announced the opening of several high schools to increase the availability of public education.

Secondary Schools :

1. The National High School of Onaville (West), nicknamed Lycée Leslie François Saint-Roc Manigat;

2. The National High School of Coq-Chante (Southeast);

3. The National High School of Bellamy (Southeast);

4. The National High School of Brésilienne (Southeast);

5. The National High School of Tamarin (La Gonâve, West); 6. The National High School of Abricots (Grand-Anse).

The Minister also provided an update on the creation and deployment of nine Higher Technical Education Centers (CESTs), which are institutional branches of the departmental public universities (UPDs). This ad hoc measure aims to create closer ties between the student population and university training centers. The CESTs offer an interdisciplinary curriculum. The academic objective is the certification of middle managers and multi-skilled technicians in rural development.

List of CESTs :

• The Thiotte CEST, chosen as the hub for the Belle-Anse district. Its catchment area specifically extends to the following municipalities and population centers : Thiotte, Grand-Gosier, Anse-à-Pitres, Belle-Anse, and Forêt des Pins.

• The Côteaux CEST, the development hub chosen for the South Coast. Its catchment area and recruitment zone specifically extends to the following municipalities and population centers : Saint-Jean du Sud, Port-Salut, Côteaux, Les Anglais, Chardonnières, Port-à-Piment, Roche-à-Bateau, and Tiburon.

• The Môle Saint-Nicolas (Mare-Rouge) CEST, chosen as the location hub for the Lower Northwest region. Its catchment area and recruitment zone specifically extends to the following municipalities and population centers : Jean-Rabel, Bombardopolis, Baie-de-Henne, and Môle Saint-Nicolas.

• The Saint-Raphaël CEST, chosen as the location hub for the North region. Its catchment area and recruitment zone specifically extends to the following municipalities and population centers: Saint-Raphaël, Dondon, Ranquitte, La Victoire, and Pignon.

• The Anse-à-Veau CEST (Centre for Higher Education and Training) was chosen as the location for the Nippes region. Its catchment area specifically covers the following municipalities and population centers : Anse-à-Veau, Baradères, Petit-Trou des Nippes, Grand-Boucan, Plaisance, Arnaud, and L’Asile.

• The Dame-Marie CEST was chosen as the location for the Anse-d’Hainault district. Its catchment area specifically covers the following municipalities and population centers : Les Irois, Anse-d’Hainault, Dame-Marie, Abricots, and Chambellan.

• The Anse-à-Galets CEST was chosen as the location for the island of La Gonâve. Its catchment area and recruitment zone specifically extend to the following municipalities and population centers : Anse-à-Galets and Pointe-à-Raquettes.

• The Petit-Goâve CEST, chosen as the location for the Palmes region. Its catchment area and recruitment zone specifically extends to the following municipalities and population centers : Léogâne, Grand-Goâve, and Petit-Goâve.

• The Gris-Gris CEST, chosen as the location for the Bainet District. Its catchment area and recruitment zone specifically extends to the following municipalities and population centers : Bainet and Côtes-de-Fer.
