The Central Departmental Directorate of Civil Protection (DDPC-C) held its 27th coordination meeting at the Departmental Emergency Operations Center (COUD), with the participation of State and non-State partners. The meeting was held in a hybrid format, also allowing for the participation via videoconference of representatives from the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) and the International Organization for Migration (IOM).

This meeting provided an opportunity to review several major humanitarian challenges in the department.

Ms. Magareth Multy, the Departmental Director of Civil Protection, notably alerted partners to the concerning situation of displaced persons relocated to the new semi-permanent transitional site. For nearly eight days, these families have been facing significant difficulties accessing drinking water and water for domestic purposes. Other concerns, particularly related to non-food items and the protection of displaced persons, were also raised.

Participants also discussed updating the Departmental Contingency Plan, an essential tool for strengthening preparedness and response to natural disaster risks. In this regard, the involvement of the Departmental Committee for Disaster Risk Management in collecting and providing the necessary data was central to the discussions.

Furthermore, in light of the challenges encountered at the temporary site, the OCHA representative proposed holding an emergency meeting on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, bringing together all partners working on the site, to coordinate a rapid and appropriate response to the needs of the families.

After more than three hours of discussions, participants reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening coordination and solidarity among humanitarian and institutional actors to better meet the needs of the most vulnerable populations.
