The Gaillard hydroelectric power plant, with an installed capacity of 500 kW, has officially resumed operations, marking a crucial step in improving energy access in the Southeast Department.

This recommissioning follows a site visit conducted on May 20, 2026, by engineer Joseph Almathe Pierre Louisle, Minister of Public Works. Noting with grave concern that this vital energy infrastructure had been completely shut down for approximately a year, the Minister immediately recognized the urgency of the situation and ordered the planning of targeted technical interventions.

Technical teams were promptly mobilized. The rehabilitation work undertaken resolved the operational constraints and fully restored the plant's production capacity.

Thanks to this intervention, the Gaillard hydroelectric power plant is once again supplying local grids, providing tangible relief to residents and economic activities in the Cayes-Jacmel region.
