On Saturday, August 15, 2026, at the Cayes Cathedral, Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé attended a solemn Mass celebrated by His Eminence Cardinal Chibly Langlois, on the occasion of the Feast of the Assumption of Our Lady. A major feast of the Catholic Church, the Assumption commemorates the ascent into heaven, body and soul, of the Virgin Mary, mother of Jesus, at the end of her earthly life.

In Les Cayes, this celebration holds particular significance, as the Feast of the Assumption of Our Lady is the city's official patron saint.

By attending this celebration, the Prime Minister wished to share in this moment of faith, reflection, and hope, while also acknowledging the profound spiritual and cultural connection that unites the communities of the South each year around their religious heritage.
