On Thursday, August 20, 2026, at the Kinam Hotel, the Provisional Electoral Council (CEP) held its first day of discussions with an initial group of representatives from accredited political organizations. The day focused on presenting the candidate registration platform and reviewing the progress of the electoral process.

In his address, Jacques Desrosiers, President of the CEP, reiterated that the organization of elections relies on popular participation and will, as well as a collective commitment to the nation. He also emphasized that holding any public office requires integrity, competence, a sense of duty, and responsibility.

Desrosiers stressed the need to rekindle citizens' hope and encourage their full participation in the electoral process. He affirmed that the country deserves credible elections that can pave the way for greater justice and progress.

Representatives from various political parties and groups actively participated in the discussions. Their interventions focused on the electoral decree, the political party financing system, the requirement for political parties to submit a list of 30,000 members, and the challenges related to the country's security situation.

The discussions allowed the political leaders present to express their concerns and seek clarification on several aspects of the electoral process.

At the end of the discussions, the President of the CEP invited the representatives of the political parties to submit a memorandum to the electoral body outlining all their grievances, proposals, and expectations.

Concurrently, system administrators appointed by various political parties participated that same day in the first orientation session designed to present and explain the operation of the candidate registration platform for political organizations, with a view to its optimal use.
