Haiti's inflation falls in the 3rd quarter

Consumer prices continued their disinflationary trajectory at the end of the third quarter of fiscal year 2025-2026. Annual inflation fell from 20% to 18.9%, while monthly inflation slowed to 1%. This trend was primarily driven by lower petroleum product prices and the relative stability of the exchange rate (130 gourdes to one US dollar), which depreciated by 1.1 percentage points compared to the previous month.

Over the first 9 months of fiscal year 2026, cumulative monthly inflation reached 11.6%, compared to 22.2% during the same period of the previous fiscal year. Furthermore, the average monthly rate was 1.3%, compared to 2.6% for the first three quarters of fiscal year 2024-2025.

Despite the slowdown in monthly inflation, the average observed value remains higher than that of Haiti's main trading and financial partners (notably the Dominican Republic: 0.4%).

Three categories account for 71.7% of household consumption: Food and non-alcoholic beverages; Housing, water, gas, electricity, and other fuels; and Transportation. Together, these categories contributed 80.2% to annual inflation. For monthly inflation, food products alone represented 70.83% of the price increase.

Outlook : The BRH forecasts indicate that the slowdown in inflation is expected to continue over the next three months. Projected annual inflation: 17.7% in July 2026. 16.5% in August 2026 and 15.7% in September 2026.
