Serious and deadly ventilation problems at Jacmel Prison

On the instructions of Patrick Pélissier, Minister of Justice and Public Security (MJSP), a team of technicians from the Studies and Programming Unit (UEP), led by engineer Emmanuel Fortuné, was dispatched to the Jacmel Civil Prison to identify the causes of the serious ventilation problems observed at the facility.

Through this initiative, the MJSP intends to prevent a recurrence of the several cases of asphyxiation recently recorded in the cells.

The rehabilitation work, which is progressing rapidly, aims to substantially improve detention conditions at the prison. The work carried out includes the demolition of the screen wall and the creation of openings and windows around the cells, allowing for better air circulation.

Through this intervention, Minister Pélissier reaffirms his commitment to working to improve detention conditions and strengthen the country's prison infrastructure in order to contribute to respect for the rights of persons deprived of their liberty.
