The General Directorate of Civil Protection (DGPC), in conjunction with the Permanent Secretariat for Risk Management (SPGRD), has placed the West, Central, South, Southeast, and Artibonite departments under a yellow alert for heavy rains, after Haiti's Hydrometeorological Unit (UHM) confirmed the presence and passage of the 38th tropical wave of the season, which corresponds to the remnants of Tropical Storm Dolly, over the Caribbean region.

On Sunday afternoon, this tropical wave was located near Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands, moving westward at a speed of approximately 40 kilometers per hour.

According to the UHM's forecast, from this Monday afternoon, August 31, until Tuesday, September 1st, the system could bring heavy rain, thunderstorms, and strong winds to several departments of the country.

The General Directorate of Civil Protection (DGPC) and the Special Service for the Management of Disaster Risks (SPGRD) have officially issued a Yellow Alert for heavy rain in these five departments, as this tropical wave is likely to cause flooding, landslides, mudslides, and overflowing ravines and rivers.

The General Directorate of Civil Protection is asking residents of the affected departments to follow these safety instructions :

• Follow all weather reports and follow the instructions of the authorities. Do not listen to rumors;

• Do not take shelter under trees or near power lines during thunderstorms;

• Never cross rivers, ravines, or flooded areas on foot, by motorcycle, or by car;

• Avoid areas prone to flooding and landslides;

• Secure valuables to prevent them from being blown away by the wind.
