Religion : New Bishop of the Diocese of Fort-Liberté
Tuesday, September 1st, 2026, the Apostolic Nunciature in Haiti announced that His Holiness Pope Leo XIV has appointed Mgr. Jean Pierre Sander Louis-Jean, Bishop of the Diocese of Fort-Liberté, until now Auxiliary Bishop of Port-au-Prince. Mgr. Jean Pierre Sander, replaces Mgr. Quesnel Alphonse, who had pastoral charge of this Diocese since October 25, 2014 and who is retiring. In its press release, the Apostolic Nunciature invites priests, religious men and women as well as the lay faithful to welcome this decision in a spirit of prayer, faith and hope. Curriculum Vitae of Mgr. Jean-Pierre Sander Louis-Jean : Mgr. Jean-Pierre Sander Louis-Jean was born on October 17, 1967 in Jérémie, in the diocese of the same name. He entered the Grand Seminary of Notre-Dame d’Haïti, where he continued his ecclesiastical studies in philosophy and theology. He was ordained a priest on November 17, 1996 and incardinated in the archdiocese of Port-au-Prince. He held the following positions and continued his studies: parish vicar (1997-1999) and priest of the Saint-Pierre parish of Pétion-Ville (2007-2016); Director of propaedeutics (1999-2003); holds a degree in spiritual theology (2005) and a diploma in spiritual accompaniment from the Pontifical Institute of Spirituality Teresianum (2007); Spiritual Director (2009-2012 and 2014-2020), Spiritual Advisor (2012-2014) and Professor of Spiritual Theology (2012-2020) at the Grand Séminaire Notre-Dame d’Haïti. Since 2020, he has been parish priest of Notre-Dame-de-l'Assomption Cathedral in Port-au-Prince and President of the Diocesan Commission for Catechesis and Liturgy. Appointed titular bishop of Privata and auxiliary of Port-au-Prince on May 31, 2024, he received episcopal consecration on August 3rd. S/ HaitiLibre
