Cap-Haitien: Haitian kickboxing world champion Chavanne Grégoire welcomed as a hero

On Tuesday, September 1st, 2026, upon his return to Haiti, Chavanne Grégoire, a native of Saint-Raphaël in the North Department, and World Kickboxing Champion (85-86 kg category), was given a hero's welcome in the diplomatic lounge of Cap-Haitien International Airport. He was greeted by Mayor Michel Saint-Croix and his deputy, Vreus Micardo, and accompanied by Sonceau Gamael, North Departmental Director of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, and Luma Pierrot, North Departmental Director of the Ministry of Tourism.

With his World Kickboxing Network (WKN) world title, two other awards—the "Official Gala Trophy" and the "Special Performance Award" and an exceptional record of 52 wins in 54 fights, Chavanne Grégoire has established himself as one of the best fighters of his generation. Mayor Michel Saint-Croix, on behalf of the municipal administration and the people of Cap-Haitien, offered his warmest congratulations and praised his courage, discipline, and remarkable contribution to the country's prestige : "Chavanne Grégoire, a true source of pride for Haiti !"

This official reception reflects the State's recognition of an athlete who has proudly represented Haiti on the world stage.

Kickboxing is a combat sport combining the use of fists and feet, demanding great discipline, excellent physical condition, technique, and strong determination from its practitioners.

Chavanne Grégoire is presented as the first Black fighter and the first Haitian to become a world kickboxing champion in his weight class, a distinction that is a source of pride for the country and for an entire generation of young athletes. His story demonstrates that Haitian talent can reach its highest level when hard work, discipline, determination, and passion come together.

His journey is now a source of inspiration for young Haitians who wish to pursue sports, particularly combat sports.

Chavanne Grégoire's next competition will take place on November 18, 2026. It will be a historic event entitled "Fight for Peace". For the first time, the WKN world champion will defend his world title on Haitian soil, in front of his home crowd. The fight will be held at Parc Saint Victor in Cap-Haïtien, Haiti. The stakes: An official defense of his WKN world title against Franco-Moroccan Mimoune Jazouli, a formidable official challenger designated by the WKN (22 wins, including 2 by KO/TKO and 20 by decision) and 2 losses (both by judges' decision).
