In Haiti, displaced persons are returning to their home neighborhoods.
People displaced by violence from several sites—including Bourdon, OPC, République Colombie, Annexe Communication 2, Fusion, and KID, have returned to their neighborhoods of origin, with the vast majority heading back to Solino. In September 2026, in anticipation of these returns, the Economic and Social Assistance Fund (FAES) stocked 13 community kitchens: 11 in Solino, one in Poste-Marchand, and one in Nazon. These kitchens have a stated capacity of 1,000 hot meals each per day. FAES also plans to complete six additional kitchens in Bel-Air. This social assistance initiative is no longer limited to former camps; it now follows families to the neighborhoods where they have returned, ensuring there is no interruption in food aid. Acting on instructions from FAES Director General Kesner Romilus, the agency provides the necessary equipment and utensils and covers the cost of kitchen staff wages. FAES is also collaborating with the National Commission for Disarmament, Demobilization, and Reintegration (CNDDR) to set up three of the eleven planned reception centers: Lalue, Delmas 31, and Delmas 101. Community kitchens are also planned or have been established near certain centers—notably with support from the Ministry of Social Affairs—including at the Carrefour reception center and in Les Cayes, in the South.
