Security : French Ambassador visits the Vertières military base

On Friday, October 2nf, 2026, the French Ambassador visited the Vertières base of the Armed Forces of Haiti (FAD’H), where soldiers from the Gang Suppression Force (GFF) are stationed.

During the visit, the Ambassador discussed the progress of the Force’s deployment and operations in Haiti with several mission officials, including Jack Christofides, the GSF Special Representative, and Colonel Mahamat Chahata, Commander of the Force’s Chadian contingent.

This visit took place just days after the UN Security Council renewed the GSF’s mandate https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-48554-renewal-of-the-gsf-mandate-and-reactions-at-the-security-council.html . On that occasion, France called for accelerating the deployment of this international force to enable it to fully contribute to restoring security and holding elections.

The Ambassador also met with Major Saint-Louis of the Armed Forces of Haiti (FAD’H). Their discussions focused on continuing military cooperation between France and Haiti, particularly through the SABRE partnership, which provides training for Haitian military personnel. Over the past two years, around one hundred FAD’H soldiers have been trained in this way, and a new training session is scheduled before the end of 2026.

Through its support for the GSF and its cooperation with the FAD’H and the Haitian National Police (PNH), France remains committed, alongside its international partners, to contributing to the sustainable restoration of security and the return to constitutional order in Haiti.
