Tourism : No timeline for the return of cruises to Haiti
Michael Bayley, President and CEO of Royal Caribbean, stated that the cruise line has no timeline for resuming port calls at Labadee, Haiti, as persistent violence and instability continue to raise safety concerns. It is worth noting that Royal Caribbean suspended its calls at Labadee in April 2025 and has since extended that suspension through June 2027. Consequently, no ships are scheduled to visit Labadee before July 2027 at the earliest. "We have been present in Labadee for 30 years [...] We have gone through periods before where we had to leave Labadee until things stabilized. This time, the situation is simply lasting much longer, and it is far more violent and dangerous. We are simply waiting to see if the situation eventually stabilizes." Bayley clarified that the cruise line will not return to Labadee until it is certain that conditions are safe. "It is truly a tragedy, in many respects [...]" Bayley also highlighted the impact of the suspension on local residents who rely on Royal Caribbean’s visits for their livelihood, noting that the cruise line continues to support its employees in Labadee and provide them with reduced pay despite the absence of port calls.
