Agriculture : Strengthening agricultural mechanization
The Ministry of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Rural Development (MARNDR), within the framework of the Resilient Agriculture for Food Security Project (PARSA) funded by the World Bank, recently donated two power tillers to the Corail Irrigators Association (AIC), one of the organizations affiliated with the Network of Agricultural Producer Organizations of Grande Anse (ROPAGA). This support reflects the Ministry's commitment to facilitating the work of farmers, improving the development of their plots, and contributing to increased agricultural production in the commune of Corail, where agriculture plays a significant role in local economic activity. These two power tillers are part of Component 2 of the agreement signed between MARNDR and the World Food Programme (WFP), which aims to strengthen agricultural producer organizations by providing them with the necessary resources to increase their production and add value to their harvests. Present at the ceremony, representatives from the Communal Section Administration (ASEC) of the third section of Champy, Richelet Jean-Baptiste, Marlene Jozil, and Lucmane Casimir, members of the AIC, emphasized the importance of this equipment for farmers in Campêche, particularly for soil preparation and cultivating rice paddies. Lucmane Casimir stated that this support is of particular interest to the Campêche community. He highlighted the importance of having suitable equipment to support and facilitate agricultural activities within the community. According to the beneficiaries, the use of the power tillers will reduce the arduousness of agricultural work. Where certain operations previously required significant time and labor, producers will now be able to rely on this equipment to prepare their land more efficiently. They anticipate the possibility of cultivating more plots and gradually improving their yields. Furthermore, still within the framework of the PARSA program, the Ministry officially handed over a maize processing center to the "Bondye Bay" organization, headquartered in Grand-Vincent, in the Roseaux commune, and affiliated with ROPAGA. Located in the third communal section of Grand-Vincent, this new facility includes a processing room, a storage area, a drying area, and sanitary facilities. These facilities are designed to provide producers with a unit adapted to the various stages of processing and adding value to the cereals produced in the community. To ensure processing operations, a new mill has been installed at the center. With a production capacity of between 700 and 1,200 kilograms per hour, this equipment is one of the main tools of the infrastructure. It is intended to support the processing of maize, rice, and sorghum. Its processing capacity should allow it to gradually meet the needs of producers in the area, facilitating the processing of large volumes of grain and improving operational efficiency.
