Capacity building for Haiti's women working in the fishing sector
On Thursday, October 15, 2026, in Port-Salut, on the sidelines of the International Day of Rural Women, the Ministry of Women's Affairs and Women's Rights (MCFDF), in collaboration with the Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MCI), organized a training session for women working in the fishing sector, focusing on Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs). Led by Ms. Lovely Mésidor, an MCI official, the training took place in a friendly and dynamic atmosphere. The participants, who came from several communes in the South Department, had the opportunity to learn about several essential concepts for creating and formalizing their businesses. Topics covered included business names, ten-year business licenses, and the documents required for business identification. It should also be noted that a grant will be awarded to the participants to help finance their entrepreneurial activities. Through this initiative, the Ministry reaffirms its commitment to the economic empowerment of women living in rural areas, particularly those working in the fishing sector. This approach aims to strengthen their skills and promote the development of their economic activities. IH/ iciHaiti
