Former Consul of Haiti in Boston has been arrested

Wednesday, Daril Baltazar, former Consul of Haiti in Boston, under the current administration, was arrested after being interrogated at the Central Directorate of the Judicial Police (DCPJ). Removed from office, there are about 6 months, the former diplomat was arrested at the U.S. Embassy in Haiti. He was accompanied by a dozen people to whom he would have taken the commitment to help them obtain a U.S. visa. Arrested and taken to prison, he is accused of fraud, forgery and conspiracy.

Back to school for vocational schools

At a press conference at the Primature, Marina Gourgues, Secretary of State for Vocational Training has announced that professional schools will start functioning on November 4, adding that a total of 5,900 students are enrolled in public and private vocational training centers in the country. The Secretary of State also announced that a bill is currently being developed in order to regulate the field of vocational training in Haiti.

Exhibition Odyssey of Black Music

On Monday, a working meeting was held at the Musée du Panthéon National Haïtien (MUPANAH), as part of preparations to host the traveling exhibition of the French Institute, titled "Odyssey of Black Music". This exhibition will be open to the public in early November 2013.

New Deputy Director General at MARNDR

On Monday, the Agronomist Edie Charles, who previously served as Departmental Director Agricultural for Artibonite, was installed as the new Deputy Director General at the Ministry of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Rural Development (MARNDR).

Canada reiterates its interest in working with Haiti

Monday, Vincent Le Pape, Economic Counsellor of the Embassy of Canada paid a courtesy visit to the Office of Wilson Laleau, Minister of Economy and Finance to renew Canada's interest to work closely with the Haitian government. The discussions revolved around the reorganization and operation of financial cooperatives in Haiti, the support to SMEs and on an insurance and agricultural credit system adapted to the needs of Haitian farmers.
