iciHaiti - Culture : Proclamation of the Winner of the 2019 History Prize
The jury for the 2019 History Prize, a competition organized every two years by the Haitian Society of History, Geography and Geology (SHHGG), in partnership with the Roger Gaillard Foundation (FORG) after deliberations and in accordance with the contest rules, the jury made two resolutions :

The jury decided not to award the Prize to any of the works submitted. Despite their respective interest, none of the manuscripts met the selection criteria indicated in the contest rules. However, the jury wishes to point out that the study "The public markets of Santo Domingo to the American occupation" submitted by Olivier Théralus caught his attention

In accordance with point 5 of the rules, the jury unanimously decided to award the 2019 History Prize posthumously to Alain Turnier for his work "With Mérisier Jeannis. A Slice of Jacmelian and National Life" published in 1982. A study devoted to a historical figure whose action, often underground, strongly influenced the political development of the second half of the 19th century, more particularly the period stretching from the government of Sylvain Salnave to that of Nord Alexis. This book retraces the eventful trajectory of Mérisier Jeannis while shedding light, both sensitive and scientist, on the military-political structure and on the operating mode of the actors of the time.

See you at the next edition of the History Prize in 2021 !
