iciHaiti - Heritage : Prospecting visit of site of Fort Bonnet

There are some days, a technical team of the National Heritage Preservation Institute (ISPAN) traveled to Saint-Louis du Sud for an exploratory visit of Fort Bonnet, a national heritage so far unexplored by ISPAN.

Built in 1804 by General Jean Louis Francois under the order of Emperor Jean-Jacques Dessalines, Fort Bonnet Carré is located approximately 1216 m above sea level at the peak apex of peak of bonnet carré, in the first communal section of the commune of Saint Louis du Sud, is part of the defensive fortification system.

The bad condition of the road along the path makes access to the site difficult. It takes more than 6 hours walk to get there. The site is covered with wild vegetation which does not allow to identify the presence of certain architectural elements. A priori, the site presents the morphology of the fortified system of Vauban. Bastioned by dry walls as boundary wall and masonry walls of rocks and bricks. The site also includes arc-shaped openings whose structures still hold. At least four guns were found inside the site.
