iciHaiti - HIV Health : 900,000 Haitians screened 22/09/2016 10:00:01
At the annual reception of the partners of the President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR), an initiative of the US Government, working in the health sector in Haiti, Brian Shukan, Deputy Head of Mission, in his speech, stressed that some of the ambitious objectives set in the operational plan for this fiscal year will be completed thanks to the dedicated work of PEPFAR partners. He recalled that the US assistance plan against AIDS, with support from the Global Fund PEPFAR "[...] extended screening services to over 900,000 Haitians, provided antiretroviral therapy (ART), to nearly 75,000 adults and children, and increased coverage of the mother to child prevention to 90% of pregnant women. We supported also near to 32,000 orphans and vulnerable children through a number of interventions, including household economic strengthening activities [...]" Shukan also congratulated the Ministry of Health for its adoption and implementation of the Test & Start strategy and for the deployment of viral load tests, two essential elements for achieving the 90-90-90 objectives of UNAIDS.
