iciHaiti - Politics : First National Conference on Human Trafficking in Haiti
The Haitian National Committee to Combat Trafficking in Persons (CNLTP), along with the Presidency of the Republic, the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor (MAST), the Ministry of the Interior and Territorial Communities (MICT), the National School of Magistracy (EMA), Lumos Haiti, the European Union (EU), the International Organization for Migration (IOM), USAID & the American Institutes for Research (AIR), International Association of Women Judges (IAWJ & CHAIFEJ) are pleased to invite you to the First National Conference on Human Trafficking in Haiti, to be held on 21 and 22 June 2017, from 8:30 am to 4:45 pm at the Royal Oasis Hotel, Petion-ville.

The conference will bring together representatives from the highest levels of government with international and civil society organisations, and aim to :

  • Reaffirm the commitment of the Haitian government to implement the recommendations given to them by the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights during the Universal Periodic Review last November;
  • Reaffirm the commitment of the Haitian goverment combat trafficking in persons across the country;
  • Strengthen the leadership of the CNLTP and raise awareness among the general public on the problem of trafficking in persons in Haiti;
  • Present the results of the baseline study conducted under the auspices of the CNLTP and build consensus on the strategic plan of action to combat trafficking in persons for the next five years;
  • Establish the basis for coordination among all key actors (public bodies, civil society, the international community, donors) involved in the fight against trafficking in persons and ensure that they combine their efforts to support the implementation of the National Strategy and Plan of Action.

Key speakers will include: The President of Haiti, His Excellency Mr Jovenel Moise; The Minister of Social Affairs, Mr Roosevelt Bellevue; The Minister of the Interior and Territorial Communities, Mr Max Rudolph Saint Albin; The Minister of Justice and Public Security, Mr Heidi Fortuné; The Minister for Women, Madame Eunnide Innocent.
