Jacmel : Large-scale cleanup campaign
As part of the key priorities of the Jacmel Municipal Commission, an extensive cleanup campaign, which included the removal of abandoned and inoperable vehicles, was carried out from October 23 to October 25, 2026, under the supervision of Deputy Mayors Stephanie Edward Lafontant and Julie Leclerc. The campaign focused on several strategic locations throughout the city, including Saint-Michel Hospital, Lakou Nouyòk, and the Jacmel slaughterhouse. These initiatives are part of the municipal administration’s ongoing efforts to maintain the city’s cleanliness, safeguard public health, and help prevent the spread of infectious diseases, a measure that is especially critical given the high level of vigilance currently in place in Jacmel due to the threat of anthrax. In parallel with this cleanup operation, the Jacmel municipal government is placing special emphasis on the interior and exterior renovation of the municipal slaughterhouse, which had remained inactive for over nine years. This represents a major priority for the administration. The goal is to enable the municipal government, the Southeast Departmental Directorate of Agriculture, and the Ministry of Public Health and Population (MSPP) to strengthen sanitary oversight of the meat sold and consumed within the municipality.
