Wednesday, the deputies passed the bill on video surveillance (55 votes for, 7 abstentions and 0 against). Among other things, this bill provides for the creation of a National Video Surveillance Office, responsible for the management of the system throughout the country, under the supervision of the Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of Justice.

In order to protect surveillance equipment, from theft, degradation or destruction by malicious individuals, the law criminalizes all actions aimed at affecting the proper functioning of these surveillance systems and provides for imprisonment for this purpose.

This bill will now be submitted to the Senate for ratification in the same terms, before being submitted to the Executive for publication in the official newspaper "Le Moniteur".
