iciHaiti - FLASH : Temporary closure of the Pedernales border market

Following the recent machete attack by two former Haitian employees, of Julio Reyes Perez owner of a ranch in Le Quemao, a rural community in Las Mercedes and his partner Neida Féliz Urbaez both dead as a result of their injuries, the Mayor of Pedernales Luis Manuel Felix Matos aka "Minguito" announced on Monday, March 12th the temporary closure of the border market.
The Mayor explained that he wanted to avoid reprisals of Dominicans against Haitians who come to trade in the market, while the two perpetrators (two brothers) of this assault are still on the run and have found refuge in Haiti.
The third brother of the two fugitives was arrested in the community of Banana-Haiti in possession of a motorcycle belonging to the owner of the ranch.
