iciHaiti - Security : The future communal police unit in training

After the refusal of the National Police of Haiti (PNH) to accede to the mayors' requests to create their own municipal police and following negotiations between the National Federation of Haitian Mayors (FENAMH), the General Directorate of the PNH and the Executive, an agreement was reached concerning the establishment by the PNH of a new "PoliCom" Communal Police Unit.
750 police officers of the future "PoliCom" are already in training at the National Police School on the road of Frères. According to the agreement, the metropolitan area and major cities will be the first to benefit from the PoliCom which should see the day next August.
According to Jude Edouard Pierre, Mayor of Carrefour and President of the FENAMH, the PoliCom will support the municipal administrations among others during municipal management problems (fatras, anarchic constructions etc...)
