iciHaiti - Justice : Fight against torture and inhuman treatment
As part of the International Day for the Support of Victims of Torture, several Civil Society Organizations: Combat for Peace and Development (CPD Haiti), Citizen Initiative for Human Rights (ICDH) as well as the Office of the Protection of the Citizen of Haiti (OPC) and the human rights department of Minujusth, organized a debate that was intended as a plea to draw the attention of politicians on the need to ratify the Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment (CAT), tabled in Parliament for many years https://www.icihaiti.com/en/news-21526-icihaiti-politics-haiti-has-still-not-ratified-the-convention-against-torture.html

"Haiti, what legal tool against torture and other inhuman and degrading treatment or punishment", is around this theme that about sixty participants met Tuesday at the Montana Hotel to commemorate this International Day of the United Nations against the torture.

For the occasion, a photo exhibition was held in memory of the victims of the Duvalier regime. Me Renan Hedouville, the Protecteur du citoyen, advocated strengthening the normative framework in the fight against torture and other inhuman and degrading treatment or punishment. According to him, the way in which prisoners are held in detention centers in Haiti is a form of torture, calling on all actors in the justice system to work together to remedy this situation.
