iciHaiti - Politic : Government indifferent to the fight against human trafficking

The Office of the Protection of the Citizen (OPC) expresses its indignation following the resignation last week of Dr. Fils-Lien Ely Thelot, President of the National Committee to Fight Human Trafficking (CNLTP)

According to confirmed information, the President of the CNLTP has submitted his resignation to the Head of State, explaining "the Committee is paralyzed because of the lack of resources it faces, 3 years after its appointment [...] No supervision is granted to the Committee by the supervising Ministry of this structure."

The OPC regrets that the State authorities concerned do not understand the need to support the work of the Committee in the fight against human trafficking in Haiti at a time when this phenomenon is becoming very alarming especially in border areas. Recalling that the State has an obligation to respect, protect and fulfill Human Rights through the adoption of appropriate measures that can guarantee the full exercise of these rights. Clearly, the State must fight all the phenomena hindering the enjoyment of human rights.
