iciHaiti - Economy : Postponement of the deadline of the IMF's $229M loan 18/04/2019 10:58:05
According to our information, the concessional loan of $229 million to 0% over three years signed last March with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-27124-haiti-flash-the-government-will-borrow-$229m-from-the-imf.html whose initial due date for approval (with conditions) was set for April 24 could be extended to May 21, 2019.
Recall that the temporary suspension of the loan approval process was confirmed in Washington by Gerry Rice, the IMF's Director of Communications on March 21, who said, "We will not be able to move the process forward to the IMF Executive Board without a little more clarification on the establishment of a new government and the introduction of the budget [...] We hope that political uncertainties can be quickly dissipated so that we resume work to help Haiti and the Haitian people who face to enormous socio-economic challenges."
If Haiti meets all the conditions imposed by the IMF (among other things the establishment of a legitimate Government and the vote of the budget (2018-2019), Haiti could benefit from a first payment of 45 million in June 2019.
Otherwise, the agreement with the IMF will have to be fully renegotiated.
