iciHaiti - Décovil : 1,500 families will have access to drinking water

On Saturday, October 24, 2026, engineer Théophil Ostinvil, Director General of the National Directorate for Drinking Water and Sanitation (DINEPA) joined by the Regional Director for the Centre Department and various departmental and local authorities, officially launched construction on the Drinking Water Supply System (SAEP) for Décovil, located in the Petit-Fond communal section of the Lascahobas commune.

Funded by the World Bank through the Rural Drinking Water and Sanitation Project for Resilience and Sustainable Development (EPARRDD), this initiative aims to achieve a lasting improvement in the living conditions of the beneficiary populations by providing them with access to high-quality, reliable, and continuous drinking water and sanitation services.

Once completed, the project is expected to benefit more than 1,500 families, marking a significant step forward in efforts to expand access to essential drinking water and sanitation services within rural communities.

The construction work, projected to take twelve (12) months, will be carried out by the firm Plan Consul. The United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) acting under a contract with DINEPA will oversee the project and manage its execution in accordance with the established contractual terms.

This project aligns with the Haitian government’s commitment to making access to drinking water and sanitation a national priority. This policy seeks to extend essential services beyond major urban centers, with a specific focus on communal sections and rural communities.
