iciHaiti - Education : Only 15% of graduate students stay in Haiti

Saulo Neiva, Director of the Regional Office of the University Agency of La Francophonie (AUF) during his speech at the "Assises 2019 on Higher Education" https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-27686-haiti-news-zapping.html which ended on May 9 at the Marriott Hotel, revealed that "85% of graduate students in Haiti leave the country."

While explaining understanding the real socio-economic difficulties young people face, finding a job or starting a business, he also highlighted a cultural factor among Haitians who are raised in the belief that living in another country is a sign of social success.

In addition, Saulo Neiva lamented that these young graduates sometimes agree to work in professions that do not correspond to their level of knowledge in other countries.

Faced with the growing number of young Haitian graduates who leave the territory to other destinations in search of a better-being Saulo Neiva, urges universities to develop strategies to retain in Haiti these young graduates who are the future of the country, while recalling that there was no quick fix, but nothing was insurmountable with time and effort.
