iciHaiti - Health : Launch of a National HIV Impact Survey

This week, the Haitian Government, through the Ministry of Public Health in collaboration with the Haitian Institute of Childhood, with the technical support of ICAP from Columbia University and the American Centers of Control and Disease Prevention, through funding from PEPFAR, launched the first HIV Impact Assessment (AIDS) survey based on the Haitian Population (HAPHIA).

According to Dr. Greta Roy Clément, Minister of Public Health, the HAPHIA survey will measure the scope and impact of HIV prevention, care and treatment services in the country. This national survey will examine the distribution and evolution of HIV in Haiti, assess the coverage and impact of available care and treatment services for the population, and measure HIV-related risk behaviors according to a representative sample of HIV adults and children at the national level. This survey will visit more than 12,000 randomly selected families in the 10 departments. Men, women and children aged 0 to 4 and 10 to 64 will be targeted. The results will enable the Ministry to improve future health programs and policies.
