iciHaiti - DR : More than 80% of Haitians controlled are illegal

The Directorate General of Migration (DGM) reports that in the first two weeks of September, it carried out migratory control operations in 14 provinces : Azua, Duarte, Espaillat, Mirabal Sisters, La Altagracia, La Vega, María Trinidad Sánchez, Mgr. Nouel, Montecristi, Puerto Plata, Santiago, San Pedro de Macorís, Santiago Rodríguez, Valverde, as well as in the National District and Santo Domingo North and East, during which the legal status of 2,127 Haitian nationals was verified

After the verification process using biometric readers and the central database, 1,774 compatriots (83.4%) did not have legal documents allowing them to stay in Dominican territory and were declared in an irregular migration situation. They were taken to the border posts of Dajabón and Elías Piña, to be registered and deported to Haiti after having warned the Haitian authorities.

The migratory control teams were composed of inspectors, agents of the DGM) with the support of the military, the National Police, the body specialized in the security of tourism (CESTUR) in coordination with the Public Ministry of the concerned Provinces.

Lieutenant General Máximo William Muñoz Delgado, Director General of the DGM, warned that he would continue relentlessly the migratory control operations of all foreigners living illegally on Dominican territory.
