iciHaiti - DR : Towards an increase in migration controls, 2,375 Haitians deported
The Directorate General of Migration (DGM) announces that it has carried out migration control operations in 15 provinces: Azua, Barahona, Duarte, La Vega, María Trinidad Sánchez, Montecristi, Santiago, Santiago Rodríguez, Puerto Plata, Valverde, San Francisco de Macorís, Espaillat, Bonao, Neyba, Valverde and the National District.

Over a 10-day period, 2,592 Haitians were controlled. After verification using biometric readers and the central database of the DGM, 2,375 (91.6 %) of Haitians were declared in irregular migratory situation on the Dominican territory and returned to the border posts of Dajabón, Jimaní and Elías Piña to be registered and deported to Haiti.

The migratory control teams were composed of inspectors, agents of the Directorate General of Migration (DGM) with the support of the military, the National Police, the tourist police (CESTUR) and agents of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Environment and Natural Resources in coordination with the Public Ministry of the Provinces concerned.

The DGM said in a statement that it would increase the number of its migratory control operations throughout the Dominican territory, in order to fight against illegal immigration and prevent all foreigners without legal migration status (mostly Haitians) to reside on the Dominican territory.
