The Dominican military authorities and those of the specialized body of land border security (CESFRONT) said that several hundred Haitians fleeing insecurity and violence in Haiti have been intercepted in the past four days in communities in the North West.

CESFRONT and the army said that many of these Haitians had been arrested while trying to cross the border and others as they tried to cross the mountains. According to the testimonies of Haitians arrested, their intentions were to go mainly to Santiago, but also to La Vega, Bávaro, Puerto Plata, Santo Domingo and other communities in the country.

After their arrests, the military forces handed over Haitian citizens to the Migration Directorate for identification and measures to send back them in their country.

The Cesfront and the army did not give precise figures on the number of arrested Haitians, being limited to evoking several hundred people.
