iciHaiti - Insecurity : Individuals attack a bus and rape female passengers
Yolette Andrée Jeanty, Coordinator of "Kay Fanm" informs us that on Saturday December 14 in the locality of Valbrunen near the town of Cavaillon (Southern Dept.), a public transport bus was attacked by unidentified individuals and women and girls have been raped.

Some passengers were able to contact their families, who called the Cavaillon police to help the victims. The victims were taken to Bonnefin hospital.

Escapees from Aquin prison, who may have been involved in the crime, were arrested.

Yolette Andrée Jeanty recalls that "for months, vehicles traveling on national roads have been under constant attack by armed bandits, day and night. In some cases, travelers are injured, killed or kidnapped and their families often have to pay a ransom for their release. Women and girls are also subjected to individual and collective rape [...] These attacks cannot in any case be tolerated or accepted as a normality. People have the right to protection, which is part of the state's human rights obligations. It is up to the police to intervene to ensure security on highways, rescue victims of assault, investigate the alleged abuses and diligently prosecute the violators. It is up to the justice system to act so that these acts do not go unpunished."
