Officers from the Law Enforcement Unit (UDMO) from Jérémie, who came to pick up the police officer allegedly responsible for this death, ran into a crowd who objected to the police leaving the scene. UDMO officers used their weapons and tear gas to disperse the crowd and be able to take the alleged police officer with them. During the shooting, Jean Blaise Fritz, a notable was fatally hit by a bullet.

The angry population set fire to the police station.
